Passport and ID card appointments are booked on consulat.gouv.fr, the ministry's booking site, from the link for Los Angeles on the network's passport page: one appointment covers one person, and a passport and an ID card for the same person fit in one slot.

For a signature certification, the network's page on that act gives legalisation.los-angeles-fslt@diplomatie.gouv.fr to request the appointment.

Booking is free. What you pay is the chancery fee of the service, set in euros and charged in dollars.

It has a paid photo booth on site, which the network says is not suited to newborns or small children, and it mails passports with a FedEx Express Saver label you prepare.

How to cancel an appointment at the French Consulate in Los Angeles

A slot released in time can serve someone who has been trying for weeks.

Cancel on consulat.gouv.fr itself, from your booking: the platform asks you to confirm and lets you add a message. For anything booked another way, write through the network's contact form, us.diplomatie.gouv.fr/contact.

Real reviews of the French Consulate in Los Angeles

Some of the reviews people leave on Google, summarized in their own words and without polish.

On Google the office averages 4.0 stars from 378 reviews.

Renewing his passport and ID card took exactly 29 minutes; he wishes every government office worked that fast.

Baur N.

The staff is professional, but getting there is not easy: you need a car, parking is hit or miss and LA traffic makes arriving on time a gamble; you may wait outside if the consulate runs late.

Théo F.

He came after a rainstorm to renew his son's passport and found the power out and the office closed for the day, with no backup generator.

Edouard B.

Phone number of the French Consulate in Los Angeles

Questions about passports, ID cards, civil status, nationality or social matters go to France Consulaire, the information line for French people abroad, which answers in French only.

From the US it is +1 (310) 893-0920, at the price of a local call; from abroad, +33 4 11 77 30 15 (Monday to Friday, 2 to 10 pm Paris time, which is 5 am to 1 pm Pacific for most of the year, except French public holidays).

The consulate's own line, +1 (310) 625-9713, is for extreme emergencies of French nationals only (an accident, a death, an arrest, a child in danger); a lost passport is not one: report it through the contact form. (source)

France Consulaire's hours are set in Paris time, 2 to 10 pm. The network's contact page and the English version of this consulate's page convert them to 5 am to 1 pm Pacific; its French version says 6 am to 2 pm.

The first figure is right for most of the year: the one-hour gap only holds in the weeks when France and the US change their clocks on different dates. (sources: 1, 2, 3)
